When this feature showed up in the Summer of 2015, I'll admit, I was thrown off. Where are the tiles I've come to know to access all of the installed apps on my Chromebook? Well, it was replaced with a new update. Instead, the small tiles have been replaced with a magnifying glass (i.e. the universal icon for 'search'). I suppose that is what Google is known for. Clicking the magnifying glass will give you:
